The role of Chief Wellness Officer has been emerging over the past several years.  It is new and there are a number of ways that CWOs can make a strong case for the value they bring to the role and initiatives they develop. Chief Wellness Officer is becoming more common globally and while the specific titles and reporting structures may vary by country or region, the goals of promoting wellness and wellbeing within organisations is a universal one

Chief Wellness Officers promote employee wellbeing, support a healthy and productive workplace culture,  engage with stakeholders, and work with the executive team of the  organisation to deliver growth.  Responsibility and focus of the role varies from organisation to organisation but the overall objective is to help employees and the organisation thrive both personally, professionally and organisationally.

Here are some common types of CWO roles

(1) Strategy-focused CWO
This type of CWO is reponsible for developing and implementing wellness strategies that align with the overall goals and values of the organisation.  They work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders to identify and prioritise essential wellness.  They may also conduct research and conduct analysis to evaute the effectiveness of initiatives

(2)  Program-focused CWO
This type of CWO is responsible for designing, implementing and managing specific wellness programs or initiatives within an organisation.  The may work closely with departments or teams to develop and deliver programs that address specific wellness need or concerns, such as mental health, stress management or physical fitness.

(3)  Culture-focused CWO
This type of CWO is responsible for creating and promoting a culture of wellness within an organisation.  They may work to build awareness and support for wellness initiatives among employees and stakeholders.  They develop training or education materials to help employees adopt healthy habits and behaviours.


(4)  Executive-focused CWO

This type of CWO is responsible for supporting the wellness needs of senior leaders and executives within an organisation.  They work closely with executives to develop personalised plans to help them achieve their work and health goals.

They work closely with the CEO and the Executive Team to evaluate wellness structure and management within the organisation to integrate essential wellness initiatives ito the fabric of the organisation.

(5)  Hybrid CWO model
Finally some organisations may combine various elements of these different type of wellness roles, depending on the specific needs and priorities of the organisation and CEO.
